Our Statement about Leagues Cup

As passionate soccer supporters in Austin, Los Verdes joins Austin Anthem and other supporters groups across the league in expressing our disappointment with MLS's decision to prioritize Leagues Cup over the longstanding and historic U.S. Open Cup. This year, MLS withdrew most first teams from the 2024 U.S. Open Cup, citing schedule congestion. Meanwhile, every MLS team is competing in Leagues Cup, established in its current format in 2023. This move prioritizes short-term financial gain over a century of tradition and the opportunity to grow the sport across diverse domestic markets. Leagues Cup should not be played at the expense of the involvement of all MLS first teams in the U.S. Open Cup. Los Verdes demands that the league reverse its decision next year and restore full participation of MLS first teams in the U.S. Open Cup.
